I hosted my first supper club this week as Alice SushiArt expands into the events and corporate areas. It was a great success and an opportunity for colleagues and friends to enjoy an evening together, tasting a variety of sushi and modern Japanese inspired dishes.
Guests were offered a range of different starters, such as sushi platters (above), including fresh raw fish, natto (Japanese soy beans), homemade tamagoyaki (rolled omelette), cucumber, and aubergine nigiri.
I added a twist on traditional tempura by mixing coconut flakes into the batter, and baking them in the oven instead of deep-frying. This made them healthier, easier to prepare and cook, and just as delicious!
Main courses included a choice of chicken katsu curry with Japanese pickles, ‘fish ‘n chip sushi’ or a bowl of chirashi sushi. The feedback on all of these was very positive 🙂
The meal ended with a traditional Japanese desert: homemade matcha (green tea) ice cream, and seasonal fruits, together with a refreshing cup of Jasmine tea.
All guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening and my modern twists on Japanese food. It was great fun hosting the event and I look forward to many more in the future.
